2006/1: region of activities

Spring semester 2006: Bulgaria-Greece

In the spring semester of 2006 the activities concentrated on the Greek region. The conference took place in Portaria/Volos.

Showcase workshops

Topics during the showcase workshops in Bulgaria and Greece will be: ports, (para)transit in rural areas and light rail in mid-sized cities. Before the start of the Showcase workshops the host partners will submit a detailed position paper annex work plan in which they will identify the precise tasks they will address in their activities during the upcoming semester.

The Showcase workshops in Greece take place in advance of the municipal elections. In a way the showcase workshops are mend to show that solutions for sustainable mobility and transport development areas are not only suitable for cities over 1 million inhabitants like Athens and Thessaloniki. Such strategies can also be applied in medium sized or even small cities like Volos, Larissa, Patras or Philippi. Philippi's Bulgarian partner city Kardjali is roughly the same size like Volos, Larissa or Patras and fit this exercise rather well.

Conference

The topics of the conference are:
- Ports
- Paratransit in rural areas
- Mobility in the Dipole Volos-Larisa
