Station-to-centre and coast-to-coast

During the Ancona events we will present, debate and discuss the development of the axis Ancona station - Ancona city centre and the axis Lazio-Umbria-Marche.

Axis station-port-centre

The axis station-port-city centre includes Ancona's main train station (to be renewed), the station square, the main route into the centre (Via Guglielmo Marconi), the new Archi park-and-ride facility, the Archi neighbourhood (named after the arcs along Via Guglielmo Marconi, the new road tunnel into the centre (Galleria San Martino) and the original access to the centre: the Corso Giuseppe Garibaldi. The latter one leads to the Piazza Cavour, the city's main square.
Linking the city centre, port and the city's main station offers great opportunity for transport development (TDA). At the same time the axis faces complex questions in terms of social cohesion.
The Archi project, apart from being a brick of the national strategic platform, is an interesting example of participation and social inclusion in a historical low-income neighbourhood, close to the central rail station and along the route to the port and the city centre. We would like to discuss the process steps and the results, getting hints from the experts on potential achievements and best procedures.

Axis Lazio-Umbria-Marche

The axis Lazio-Umbria-Marche or asse trasversale Lazio-Umbria-Marche is one of the new national territorial platforms. Up to now the strongest links in this part of Italy developed parallel to the Adriatic coast, not perpendicular to it. The connections between the Adriatic coast and the Tyrrhenian coast are hampered by the Apennine mountain range. The Italian Ministry for Infrastructure and Transport is set to do something about the underused spatial potential in such case. Apparently the Ministry is putting effort in the improvement of coast-to-coast links and relations. The smaller axis Ancona station-port-city centre is part of this national axis. Other cities in the Le Marche region that are situated on the axis Lazio-Umbria-Marche are Jesi and Fabriano.
